Pick Your Own Farms in Somerset

If you’re wondering whether there are any Pick Your Own Farms near me, we can tell you that Somerset has a great selection. There are lots of farms throughout Somerset where you can buy the freshest local produce directly from the growers and large fields of fruit, berries, vegetables and flowers where you can pick your own.  

There are so many benefits to picking your own food: what better way to show your support of British farming than by visiting a Pick Your Own farm. You know where your food is coming from, you’re reducing your food miles by choosing local, seasonal options wherever possible. Plus, PYO is an excellent way to connect your family to the food they eat.

A pick your own farm is simply a great day out, so why not create your family’s own summer strawberry-picking memories!

We all know that getting out and about in the fresh air is good for both mental and physical health, so why not combine it with stocking up on tasty treats too? Here are some of the best pick your own locations in Somerset.

Pick Your Own Fruit Farms in Somerset

Where: Keirles Farm, Thurloxton, Nr. Taunton, TA2 8RH

When: From June 17th 2024

Set in 25 acres on the foothills of the Quantocks, Thurloxton Farm is the ideal place to pick your own in Somerset.

You’re now allowed to eat in the fields!

Entry fee is £3 per person, and you’ll receive a pre-paid punnet that you can fill up and take home, as well as sampling their delicious fruits straight from the bushes.

If you want to pick more, this is paid by the kilo at the end of your visit. They provide punnets, but encourage you to bring your own containers if possible.

  • Redcurrants – Mid June – End of July
  • Blackcurrants – Mid July – End of July

Bring a picnic to eat in their picnic area by the hut. The hut sells local ice cream and a variety of soft drinks.

Dogs are welcome on a lead in the car park/picnic area, but not in the fields.

Pick your own in Somerset

Where: PYO Forde Abbey Fruit Farm, Thorncombe, Chard, TA20 4NA

When: From mid-June 

Just a mile down the road from Forde Abbey House and Gardens, you’ll find their 5-acre PYO fruit farm.

Where: North Perrott Fruit Farm, North Perrott, CrewkerneSomerset, TA18 7SS

When: From Early July

Well known locally, North Perrott Fruit Farm offers PYO apples, pears, sweetcorn and pumpkins. This apple Farm has 17 scrumptious varieties to pick between July and October. These include eating, cooking, juicing and cider-making varieties which are available to pick six days a week.

Celebrate ‘Apple Weekend‘ down at North Perrott’s Farm on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October 2024. Made even more famous after featuring on Channel 5’s  programme “Somerset – Wonder of the Westcountry”, this celebration it’s a great family day out. There’s apple tasting, tractor rides around the orchards, vintage tractor display and ploughing plus a local craft fair in the Village Hall.

The Farmshop sells their home-grown vegetables, pressed juices, plus produce from neighbouring farmers and producers in the local area. 

Pick your own in Somerset, North Perrott Farm

Where: Combe Lane, Exford, Nr. Minehead, West Somerset, TA24 7QQ

When: From August

You’ll find Exmoor Blueberry Farm deep in the heart of the Exmoor Hills surrounded by stunning scenery and wildlife. The Kelly Family have planted 12-acres of blueberry plants which are maintained by nature and invite you to pick your own delicious organic blueberries. Bring a basket or bucket and come and fill up on fresh air and frolics and beautiful fruit. The kids will love picking armfuls of delicious organic blueberries fresh from the bush to take home. 

As well as blueberry picking, they offer a ‘wild’ camping experience so you can enjoy their corner of the natural world including the most beautiful clear stars! Exmoor was one of the first Dark Skies reserves due to its lack of light pollution, so the stars are truly breathtaking. Stay right next to the blueberry fields high above the valley, with a crackling fire – get back to basics enjoying a stunning view and masses of space to roam. 

Cheddar Vale Nursery, Axbridge

Where: Cheddar Vale Nurseries, Turnpike Road, Weare, Axbridge, BS262JD

Pick your own strawberries are already open for picking. Please check their Facebook page which is updated regularly, before leaving home, to see how much fruit is available. It’s been super popular this year!

Dogs are welcome.

Cheddar Vale Nursery PYO

Where: East Nynehead, Wellington, Somerset, TA21 0DA

When:

  • Strawberries usually between mid-May and September;
  • Raspberries usually between end of May and November

**Not a PYO, the fruit from this farm is already picked,  packed into punnets and is put into a fridge in the farm yard.**

🍓 Best strawberries: 227g punnet £1.75. 600g punnet £4.00. Best raspberries: £1.75 for 150g punnet.
🍓 Lots of jam grade strawberries, just £1 for a 400g punnet or 11 punnets for £10.

Pick Your Own Flowers in Somerset

Where: Cowslip Lane, Hewish, North Somerset, BS24 6AH

When: August – Open 10 am-4 pm every day through the summer.

Spread across the beautiful Somerset countryside surrounding Puxton Park, 200,000 sunflowers have been planted! There’s nothing more summery than a vast expanse of vibrant yellow sunflowers!

 No need to pre-book. Free entry. Sunflowers: £2 each. Bring your own scissors/secateurs to cut the flowers. 

Don’t forget to pop into Puxton Farm Shop on your way out.

Where: Somerset Lavender, Faulkland, Radstock, Somerset, BA3 5WA

When: August – September 2024

Price: A ‘pick your own sunflowers ticket’ cost £5 per person and include up to 5 sunflower stems. Extra stems £1/each.

Somerset Sunflowers have a staggering 6.5 acre field dedicated to sunflowers.  When you arrive at the farm, purchase a ticket from the farm shop. Enjoy a serene walk around the sunflower field and find hidden tracks through the sea of sunflowers to help you select your perfect sunflower stems. It’s a great experience day for all the family.

Afterwards, pop into their farm shop and cafe with indoor and outdoor seating where they serve hot and cold beverages, homemade cakes and light lunches.

Somerset Sunflower Farm

Where: Somerset Lavender, Horsepond Farm, Faulkland, Somerset, BA3 5WA

When: June and throughout July 2024.

There are two main lavender fields which are home to two varieties of lavender: English lavender in one, and fragrant French lavender in another. You are free to roam through acres of beautiful purple lavender, experiencing all the farm has to offer, including their farm shop and cafe.

Sunflower Picking Patch and Maize Maze (Bristol)

Come and take a walk through the acres of sunflowers or have a coffee and a sit down to enjoy some ‘you time’ with nature!

Puzzle Maize Maze

Spread over 5 acres, you’ll be working together to solve the puzzles to find your way out. There’s challenges, lots of paths and of course loads of fun to be had! Little ones have a  Munchkin Maze with simpler questions and some fun questions.

Pop Up Escape Room

  • Age 13+

Join a band of buccaneers lead by the, not so talented sailor, Captain Billy Bones, who managed to beach his ship far from the crashing waves into the Maze! Find the treasure to escape the ship but watch out for the crew who are looking to lock you in the brig.

Graffiti Area

Back by popular demand, “Art on the Farm” is back bringing the very urban world of graffiti to a field near you. In the Design Tent, choose your canvas and colours – a card canvas or a t-shirt, get spraying and enjoy!

Arts and Crafts

  • Select your project (fairy wings, sunflower bird box, dream catchers, pixie potions, puppet making, canvas painting, or decorate bubble wands).

  • All other crafts only £5 for your craft and materials

There’s also a games area and food by Flourish at Glenavon. Remember to bring all-weather clothes, plus secateurs and gloves for picking and a big bag to take home your sunflowers.

Pick your own Somerset - Sunflowers at the Picking Patch

Price of bucket picked: £20 (payable at the end of your stay).

Aizel Finch opened up her pick your own flower farm in 2020, offering 1.5 hour sessions that include coffee and cake.

She has one acre of her farm devoted to growing her award-winning flowers. It is founded on responsible farming practices, permaculture, family and community. 

PYO Yallham Hayes in Somerset

Where: Court House Farm and Gardens, Church Road South, Portishead, North Somerset, BS20 6PU

Price of bucket picked: Cut a bucket of flowers from the cutting gardens for £39.00

Discover this small cut flower farm – full of blooms when the seasons allow – growing all sorts of wonderful flowers, from tulips and sweet peas to the finest roses and dahlias. The owners have been restoring this beautiful Medieval Manor  to create a Garden Hamlet to share within the wider town; and a ‘creative quarter’ which would be a ‘mixed use’ site, part studio/workshops/residential/shops.

They also offer luxury afternoon tea days so keep an eye on their website/socials for upcoming dates.

Pick Your Own Fruit in South Gloucestershire

Where: Westerleigh Road, Pucklechurch, Bristol, BS16 9PY

When: Strawberries – maincrop August

  • Open 7 days a week

**UPDATE, due to bad weather this spring, there is very little fruit picking this summer***
