 This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 10th March. The date varies each year and is always the forth Sunday of Lent.

Things to do on Mother's Day in Somerset

Mother’s Day at Leigh Court

Where: Pill Road, Abbots Leigh, North Somerset, BS8 3RA

When:  Sunday 10th March 2 pm – 4 pm. Booking is essential.

What to expect: Enjoy a traditional or Sparkling Afternoon Tea experience in the Great Hall at Leigh Court.

Nestled on the edge of Leigh Woods, Leigh Court is an impressive Palladium Mansion House set in beautiful grounds, just a short distance from Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Expect a delicious afternoon tea of delicate finger sandwiches, exquisite cakes, pork and chutney rolls, mini savoury tarts and freshly baked scones with clotted cream. As you indulge in your afternoon tea, the tranquil sounds of their resident harpist will fill the air.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, Cadbury House

Where: Frost Hill, Congresbury, North Somerset, BS49 5AD

When: Sunday 10th March 2024. Booking is essential.

What to Expect: Experience an unforgettable Afternoon Tea extravaganza in The Great Room at Cadbury House. Treat your mum to an afternoon of elegance and delight as she sips on a complimentary welcome drink when you arrive, followed by a delicious menu of finger sandwiches, mouthwatering pastries and scones.

Mother’s Day Shoot and S’more, Bath

Where: Brocks Outdoor Adventure, Kelston, Bath, BA1 9AF

When: Sunday 10th March 2024. Booking is essential.

What to Expect: Shoot alongside your Mum on our Target Archery Range and finish the session making S’mores around the Campfire. Brilliant outdoor fun for the whole family.

Mother’s Day at the American Museum and Gardens, Bath

Where: Claverton Manor, Bath BA2 7BD 

When: Sunday 10th March 2024, 10 am to 5 pm (last entry 4:30 pm); Museum 11 am to 4 pm (last entry 3 pm)

What to Expect: Visit the new, family friendly, interactive exhibition American Road Trip and discover the American heritage and decorative arts in the museum.

Capture treasured moments with a free family photo shoot in the gardens . The first wave of daffodils bursting into bloom will be the perfect backdrop for the photoshoot. You’ll have the option to purchase photos afterwards. Booking is essential.

Enjoy a glass of prosecco in the Deli.

Mother’s Day at Hestercombe

Where: Hestercombe Gardens, Cheddon Fitzpaine, Taunton, Somerset, TA2 8LG

When: Sunday 10th March 2024. Booking is essential.

What to Expect: Treat your Mum to a Mother’s Day Lunch or Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea at the beautiful surroundings of the Bampfylde Hall and The Stables Restaurant at Hestercombe.

Lunch 2 or 3 courses – available 12 – 2:00pm. 

Price: Lunch – 2 courses at £30 / 3 courses at £38 per person; Children’s menu 2 courses at £14 per child (under 12’s).

Traditional Afternoon Tea at £26 per person. Or Prosecco Afternoon Tea at £32.50 per person.

Afternoon Tea – Available 3.30 – 5.30pm (sittings at 3.30pm and 4.00pm). 

Tickets cost £10 per person, and act as a deposit for the event – the remainder will be payable on the day.

Mother’s Day Tea at Dunster Castle and Watermill

Where: Dunster Castle Watermill Tearoom, Dunster, near Minehead, Somerset, TA24 6NY

Special Mothering Sunday welcome tour of Montecute House

Where: Montecute, Somerset, TA15 6XP

When: Sunday 10th March 2024. Booking not needed.

Tours are approx. 40 minutes long, at

  • 11.00 am
  • 1.30 pm

What to Expect: The tour focuses on mothering throughout the ages and and the history of Montacute House.

Price: Normal NT admission applies.

The National Lottery Open week allows free entry to Montecute House between Saturday 9th and Sunday 17th March 2024, when you show a lottery ticket or scratch card on arrival (one per adult and up to 3 children included).

Mother’s Day afternoon tea at Fyne Court

Where: Fyne Court Music Hall, Fyne Court, Broomfield, Somerset, TA5 2EQ

When: Sunday 10th March 2024. 

  • 12:30 – 14:00
  • 14:30 – 16:00

What to Expect: Enjoy a selection of sandwiches, savouries, scones and cakes handmade in their kitchens, plus a pot of tea of your choice. Afterwards, enjoy a wander around the woodland and see the first spring blooms.

Mother’s Day Bouquets at Stourhead National Trust

Where: Mere, BA12 6QD

When: Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th March 2024, between 10.30 am and 3.00 pm

Mothering Sunday Lunch at The Bishop’s Palace

Where: The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens, Wells, Somerset, BA5 2PD

When: Sunday 10th March 2024. Choose from one of three sittings including either 12pm, 2pm or 4pm. Booking is essential.

What to Expect: Enjoy a special lunch this Mothering Sunday in the spectacular setting of the Undercroft at The Bishop’s Palace. Savour a menu truly fit for a special occasion with a selection of starters, mouth-watering mains and decadent desserts. 

Price: Two courses for £27 or three courses for just £35 (children half price).

Lunch booking don’t include access to palace and the gardens, please ask about the special day ticket for diners.

Mother’s Day at Ferne Animal Sanctuary

Where: Wambrook, Chard, TA20 3DH

When: Monday 4th March to Sunday 10th March 2024, 10 am to 5.00 pm.

What to Expect: Take your Mum along to Ferne Animal Sanctuary from March 4th to 10th for a week long celebration. Create a personalised card, vibrant paper flowers or bring the outdoors to your mum with a handmade unique bird feeder. All materials will be provided, just bring your creativity and love with you to Creative Corner. Plus, walk around the grounds, there are plenty of animals to see, pick up a trail and quiz at the visitor centre, there’s a playground for the children and a cafe.

Price: Entrance to the sanctuary will be just £1 per person on Mothering Sunday (10th March). Otherwise, £8.75 Adult; £7.70 Child (age 3–16); £27.45 for a family of two adults and up to three children (including gift aid).

Afternoon Tea at Sally Lunn’s, Bath

Where: Sally Lunns House, 4 North Parade Passage, Bath, BA1 1NX

What to Expect: Enjoy lunch or afternoon tea at the world famous tea and eating house in the centre of Bath. It’s one of the oldest houses in Bath and the kitchen museum shows the actual kitchen used by the legendary baker, Sally Lunn, in Georgian Bath to create the first Bath Bunn – an authentic regional speciality now known the world over. Mother’s Day At Farrington’s Farm

MOTHER’S DAY FLOWER WORKSHOP: Join expert florist, Tracy Carfield, to create a beautiful hand-tied bouquet of seasonal flowers, then enjoy a classic cream tea in the Cafe. Saturday 9th March 12.30 pm to 3.30 pm. £65/person

  • Explore the beautifil scenery of Prior Park Landscape Garden – the daffodils will be in full bloom and there’s family games available to play in the Cabinet. To mark the day, there’s a big frame set-up to capture a memorable picture behind.
