When Insight Activities invited us to their site in Dorset to try 3D Zombie Woodland Archery, we jumped at the opportunity. We have tried archery before and loved the experience, so we were looking forward to trying our hand at woodland archery which sounded super exciting.

3D Zombie Woodland Archery is the ultimate 3D archery experience which involves exploring their woodland to find the 3D zombie targets of all shapes, colours and sizes. Then using your archery skills to shoot at the zombie targets using different techniques.
3D Woodland Archery takes your archery skills to the next level but don’t worry if you have no previous archery experience because you’ll receive expert tuition to prepare you for the challenge.
3D Woodland Archery Experience REVIEW
Introduction
We were greeted on site by Glenn and Ken who immediately made us feel welcome and relaxed. They were both very enthusiastic about their work and from chatting to them we could feel their passion for all the outdoor activities they provide.
We were kitted up with arm guards, bows, arrows, and given a safety briefing before heading down to the target practice area.
Target Practice
Glenn patiently explained how to hold the bow and shoot an arrow. He gave us a demonstration before letting us loose to practice. We were shown different shooting techniques and how to aim with one and both eyes open and how to get the angles right. We given the opportunity to practice from different distances to the target. This part was fun and we could see how much we were improving throughout the session under Glenn’s expert guidance. We were given individual advice and coaching with plenty of helpful tips of where to aim.
During target practice, we had mini competitions where we had to beat each others score, and beat our own previous score to prepare us for the woodland challenge to follow.
3D Woodland Archery
After a short break, we headed into the woodland to look for zombies.
This part is so much fun! Glenn lead us through the trees where we spotted 3D zombie targets amongst the foliage. We used our skills to slay the zombies!
There were about 12 different zombies to find amongst the trees and through the undergrowth, shooting uphill, downhill, through branches and into the shadows. All the zombie targets varied in distance, size and shape so it was always fun to discover what was round the next corner. Some targets were more challenging than others and our youngest daughter chose to shoot closer to some of the targets than the rest of us.
The zombie targets put all our archery skills to the test and it was so satisfying to get a clean shot through the eye!
3D Woodland archery offers the perfect mix of competition between us and camaraderie as we cheered each other on!
Our 3 hour session flew by so quickly and before we knew it our afternoon of 3D Woodland Archery was over. All three girls did brilliantly, hitting most of the targets and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as did the adults. We improved our skills and gained confidence throughout the course and we came away feeling exhilarated!
Glenn and Ken’s helpful advice and tips (and Glenn’s Dad jokes) made the day super fun for a full afternoon of zombie slaying.
We would highly recommend 3D Woodland Archery to everyone, whether you’ve tried archery before or not. Our children loved the experience and can’t wait to go back!
As a family we were able to spend quality time together, outside amongst the trees. Not only are you learning a new skill (or improving your archery skills) but you’re creating lasting memories of fun times spent together. Any time spent outdoors and away from a screen is always a good idea!
